The longest teak bridge at 1,300 yards, the 200-year-old U Bein’s Bridge is just outside of Mandalay in Myanmar, the country formerly known as Burma. The best times to go are sunrise and sunset.

The U Pain Bridge (U Bain) was named after the builder U Pain who was the lord of the village on the other side of Taungthaman Lake. It is said that he built the long wooden bridge to have quick access to the Capital Amarapura to stage a coup.

The three-quarter mile long teak bridge was built more than 200 years ago. The three-quarter mile long teak bridge connecting two banks of Taugthaman Lake now is still important traffic route of the local people. Practice your balance as there are more than 1,000 wooden logs spaced apart with no handrail.

Leaving the splendid and massive Buddhist architecture in Mandalay, visitors should not miss U Bain Bridge (U Pain Bridge) – romantic scenery on Taugthaman Lake.

Experiencing natural hazards through over two centuries, the bridge is still solid as the vitality of people in here. It can be said Taungthaman Lake along with U Pein Bridge is one of the most romantic and interesting tourist attractions in Mandalay.

Visitors can stand on the bridge, watching marvelous sunset and take some nice pictures or even hire a small boat to enjoy the beautiful scenery around Taungthaman Lake. On the shores of Lake, there are many small stalls where you can sip beer and food like fried shrimps and fishes. Cool breeze in the afternoon will make visitors feel fresher and more peaceful.
